More Than Just Freedom Of The Press
MORE THAN JUST FREEDOM OF THE PRESS
I think there is more into the prophet cartoons than just freedom of press.Freedom of press, which has been distorted, has been the issue since the cartoons were released. I think both the Islamic world and many in the west misunderstood it, and did not define it properly.
By now, the time I am writing this article, this cartoon has been published not only in Europe, but also in the US "Fox news, New York Sun, Philadelphia inquirer", Canada "The Jewish Free Press, Western Standard", Australia, and New Zealand.
An Iranian newspaper Hamshiri, is holding a competition to test the freedom of the press in the west, and how far it can be extended, it will lampoon the holocaust, a spokesperson for Hamshiri invited many European artists to participate.
Westerns have trivialize the freedom of press by using it as a tool for provocation and mockery. Both Westerns and Islamic fundamentalist view the freedom of press as the ability to agitate, and insult rather than a basis for a liberal democratic society.
Another side of this crisis, is the inexperienced, short sighted, dogmatic Danish prime minister ,his right wing government, and his xenophobic press. Prime Minister Andres Fogh Rasmussen, declined a request by Arab and Islamic ambassadors to discuss this issue. Another request by 22 former Danish ambassadors to hold talks with Islamic representatives, was declined too.
He was adamant about freedom of the press, and that it is not a topic to discuss. Mr. Rasmussen in 2001 during the election campaign demanded that "criminal foreigners"' be thrown out of the country within 48 hours. The People's party declaration of Islam as "terrorist movement", and that the Islamic world could not be regarded as civilized. Jyllands-Posten with a history in anti Islamic articles ran a headline reading "Islam is the most belligerent".
This was enough to agitate radicals in the Islamic world. A platform was handed to them.
Mr. Ahmad Abu Laban, A Wahabi cleric who lives in Denmark, went on a campaign to instigate the Islamic world, opinion leaders, radicals, and clerics who shared his views. Mr. Abu laban on the CNN, and local Danish TV channels says he is against the "boycott of Danish products, or using violence against Danish interests in the Islamic world.
On the other hand, on Aljazeera and Arabian TV channels he urges the Islamic world to take action and defend their prophet. Some clerics were promising to burn the ground underneath their feet.
In the middle of this crisis is the prophet, a man who died more than 1300 years ago (632). He was a peace loving man, who forgave his enemies, and gave examples of tolerance. He expressed his tolerance in many sayings, one of which is "Those who are patient in adversity, and forgive wrongs are the doers of excellence". Even his foes liked his kindness, and praised him. Michael Heart choose him the most influential man in history.
This man has been blasphemed 2 times. By a press who is unaware of the history of Islam, his life, and motivated by agenda they want to accomplish at any cost.
By Muslim fundamentalists, who are basically Wahabis. Wahabism is dominant in Saudi Arabia. Wahabis who don't believe in honoring the prophet, or his family or any one associated to him,are leading the riot.
Wahabis have declared the celebration of the birth of Muhammad as taboo, they destroyed the graves of his daughter, grand sons, uncles, and many relatives of him. Abudl Aziz Bin Baz, the most prominent Wahabi cleric once said "I will never pray in the holly mosque until they take the grave of Muhammad out of it". He died without praying in the holly mosque in Medina. Many Wahabis scholars have said that their sticks are better than Muhammad. These remarks were passed unnoticed.
Many Wahabis are suicide bombers, driven by sectarian hate, have bombed mosques belonging to the Shiites in Iraq. Mosques in Pakistan have been attacked by Wahabi fundamentalists. No voice of condemnation was heard in the Islamic world. No demonstrations against it, not even a single statement. In many cases they have been hailed.
